On the 4th October 2010, the DSA introduced independent driving to the UK, and on the same day removed from its official website the previously published routes for 2 reasons.
- The routes were outdated since new ones had to be created for the 10 minute independent driving element of the new test.
- It would defeat the purpose of independent driving if the DSA published where the routes covered especially for those candidates who don't use qualified instructors to check if they have reached the required standard before going for a driving test.
Mill Hill Driving Test Route NW7 London
Mill Hill test centre is a hard location to pass the driving test from, and as a result it has the lowest pass rate of 34% in north west london. One of the reasons for this is that the DSA examiners have a route that is not only tricky, but also includes 2 busy multi-lane roundabouts (Apex and sterling corner), A 70mph dual carriageway, a narrow country lane all of which have to be dealt with during the 10 minute independent driving element!
The video tutorial below covers this route and has full commentary pointing out these tricky locations and how to overcome the common mistakes many candidates have made in the past. Click on the image for details of how to download the video, it will save you from making the same mistakes on an already tough driving test.

Hendon Driving Test Centre Route
The DSA Aviation Drive test centre in NW9 London also has a tricky route, that also involves Apex corner, but it also includes a poorly marked cross road junction where many candidates have failed due to poor observations before emerging, which is why you should have a look at the video below if you are not local to Hendon:

Borehamwood Test Centre Routes
I am currently editing this video, and should be available for download soon.
As a driving instructor, it is normal practice to take a test candidate on some of the routes that the examiner might take you, but this is only after the learner driver has reached the required standard expected by the dsa, and not just to memorise the roads in a bid to having a better chance of passing the driving test. Many learner drivers who are self taught or foreign international driving licence holders just want to memorise the test routes in one 2 hour lesson session and think that is all that they need to do to secure a pass certificate. It is for this very reason why I haven't done a video to cover all routes used by the examiners at these test centres.
If you need some driving lessons to prepare for your test, want to practice on some of the dsa test routes in Hendon, Borehamwood or Mill Hill?, then give me a call on 07956233032.
